The martial arts center on Sakhalin was checked before opening

Heads of sports schools, coaches and athletes held a working meeting at the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Martial Arts Center, which is preparing to open. The inspection of the new facility was organized by the Minister of Sports of the Sakhalin Region, Artem Podshivalov, so that the sports community could evaluate the new place and make suggestions before commissioning, the press service of the government of the Sakhalin Region reported.

“The martial arts center will open its doors in a couple of weeks. All the necessary equipment has already been placed here, parquet has been laid out, punching bags have been hung, rings have been installed and much more. Before we solemnly open a new place for training, it is important to show it to the people who will develop Sakhalin sports here. We will take into account all their wishes, suggestions and comments and put them into operation, because our task is to create a comfortable, modern and efficient center. The task of attracting those who will directly work and train in it to accept the important facility was set by Governor Valery Limarenko. Their feedback will help make the work of the martial arts center better from the very first days,” said the head of the sports department.

On three floors of the building there are locker rooms, gyms, showers, dry steam rooms, medical rooms and other premises necessary for high-quality training, recovery and rehabilitation of athletes. The facility’s capacity will make it possible to provide classes in six types of martial arts at once: sambo, judo, karate, boxing, kickboxing and fencing.

“Oriental and martial arts bring the Sakhalin region a large number of medals from international and all-Russian competitions, and in order not to lose ground, but only to strengthen our reputation, we needed a new modern facility. It’s great that the new martial arts center has created all the conditions for our athletes to improve the quality of their training and improve their results,” said Leonid Kim, president of the island karate federation and director of the sports school for oriental martial arts.

The martial arts center will become a place for training not only athletes, but will also be available to everyone for additional training. It will be able to accommodate more than 400 people per day. The start of its construction in 2019 was given by Governor Valery Limarenko. The tentative opening date of the facility is October 14.
