The Research and Production Association of Mechanical Engineering (part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation) is working to increase the flight range of the Onyx supersonic cruise missile. This was announced by the general director of the enterprise, Alexander Leonov.
“We have prospects for the development of Onyx. Including an increase in range, a significant increase in range,” said Mr. Leonov (quoted from RIA Novosti). He noted that he is not yet ready to give specific figures, but assured that “such work is actively underway.”
The maximum range of the basic version of the Onyx missile is 300 km. It is designed to destroy surface ships and ground infrastructure. The missile is capable of carrying a warhead weighing 300 kg.
