The Sakhalin Region is famous for its sporting achievements. In order to provide conditions for the training of athletes, the authorities are making a lot of efforts. In 2022, more than 1.1 billion rubles were allocated from the regional and federal budgets for the development of physical culture and sports in the island region. In turn, athletes win more and more awards for the region.

The sports school of water sports on the islands has become a platform for training Far Eastern swimmers for the future championships of the Far Eastern Federal District and Russia. Athletes from the Primorsky, Khabarovsk Territories, the Irkutsk Region and other regions will take part in the large-scale training camp.

According to the director of the institution, Sergei Meleshkov, last year the Far Eastern Federal District championship was held at the sports school. Its participants were satisfied with the competition site and especially with the 50-meter swimming pool.

“After that, it was decided to hold a summer training camp here at our sports facility. In September, members of the Primorsky Territory national team will come to us for two weeks to prepare for the upcoming championship and the championship of the Far East, which will again be held at our sports school,” Sergey Meleshkov said.

In August, the athletes have already spent part of the summer training and highly appreciated the preparation of the bowl, as well as the pleasant sensations after the swims.

“Gorgeous pool, excellent conditions for swimmers. I don’t know why, but when you swim, it seems that the stroke is light, the water seems to be carrying you,” shared her impressions a member of the Khabarovsk Territory swimming team, Master of Sports of Russia Victoria Shardakova.

The uniqueness of the Sakhalin sports facility was also appreciated by the director of the Dolphin School of Education in the Khabarovsk Territory Sergey Ostroushko. He added that thanks to the modern equipment of the school, the island region can become a permanent base for training Far Eastern swimmers.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that the Sakhalin water sports school hosts athletes. Last year, training camps for swimmers from the Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories were already held here. In addition, the 50-meter swimming pool of the complex has several times become the place of preparation for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo of the Russian national team.

Sakhalin karatekas won five medals of the Russian championship. Athletes managed to replenish the treasury of achievements with three gold, one silver and one bronze medals. So, they took sixth place in the team standings.

The championship of Russia in karate WKF among boys and girls (14-15 years old), juniors and juniors (16-17 years old, 18-20 years old) was held in the city of Vidnoe, Moscow Region. Almost a thousand athletes from 62 regions of the country took to the tatami during the two days of the competition.

The island region was represented by 18 pupils of the sports school of martial arts of the Sakhalin region, as well as two pupils of the Kholmsk and one of the South Kuril karate schools. Among them were three masters of sports of Russia and 13 candidates for master of sports.

The winners of the national championship among juniors and juniors aged 18-20 were masters of sports Lee Yong Bok and Akhmed Akhmedov, as well as a first-year student of Sakhalin State University Zhanna Kostyushkina. She was able to defeat the current Russian champion Alexandra Belousova.

“For the first time I took gold at the championship of Russia, I went to this for a long time. In the semi-final there was an important duel that had to be won. The meeting was with a rival from Novosibirsk – this is the current champion of Russia. With her, the score was 4:1, she took the first point, and then I won back, scored points and kept the advantage. In the final, she won with a score of 5:0. Now we need to train well at the training camp and enter the top three winners of the championship, ”said Zhanna Kostyushkina.

Second place in the weight category up to 60 kg was taken by Nikita Bolshakov, who lost in the final to Lee Yong Bok. At the same time, the athlete fulfilled the standard of the master of sports.

All of them are included in the main composition of the youth national team of Russia in karate.

And in the age group of juniors 16-17 years old, the third place in the weight category up to 55 kg was taken by Kirill Sek from Kholm. In this category, 32 people fought better for the title. The athlete spent five fights, in four of which he managed to win.

Competitions for the island athletes, who competed among juniors and juniors aged 18-20, have become a good preparation for the upcoming Russian Championship, which will be held on September 9-11 in Kazan.

After the competition, the head of the regional ministry of sports, Artem Podshivalov, met with the winners of the Russian championship in karate and congratulated the athletes on their high results.

“These are well-deserved awards! Thank you for representing the Sakhalin Region worthily at the All-Russian level. An important role in this is played by Leonid Kim, the undisputed leader in his contribution to the development of Sakhalin sports and the education of champions. I wish you success, victories and easy adaptation at the upcoming competitions in Kazan,” said Artem Podshivalov.

Meanwhile, in the Sakhalin Region, they continue to improve the conditions for training professional athletes. So, in the sports school of the Olympic reserve of winter sports, a major overhaul of the springboard acceleration mountain is being carried out. Mount K-20 was made of wooden flooring, now it will be replaced with a metal one. This will significantly extend the service life. The work is planned to be completed in September, and in the winter of this year it will be used for training.

The Sakhalin Ski Jump Complex is equipped with five ski jumps of varying difficulty. Each consists of three parts – mountains of acceleration, landing and braking. Now in the sports school they are putting in order the mountain of dispersal of one of them. The next stage is the repair of the landing mountain, it is scheduled for next year.

“We started work on August 10, now we are moving ahead of schedule. The original plan was to finish in October. As soon as the weather conditions allow, there will be a sufficient amount of snow and persistent sub-zero temperatures, we will start training,” said Mikhail Shamsutdinov, director of the ZVS school.

Young athletes train on K-20. This is the second most difficult ski jump in the complex. They pass to it after the smallest springboard K-10. Next in terms of power are K-35, K-50 and K-72. Next year, the school plans to start repairing K-35 and draw up a project for work on K-50.

Now 217 athletes are engaged in ski jumping at the sports school, among them winners of competitions at various levels and members of the Russian national team.

Sakhalin flying skier Denis Gon took bronze at the Russian championship in ski jumping. Boys and girls aged 15-17 fought for the victory. Starts were held in Nizhny Novgorod on a springboard with a capacity of K-65.

Master of Sports Denis Gon is an athlete of the regional sports training center and a graduate of the Winter Sports School. He came third with a score of 238.5 points, losing to the silver medalist from Primorsky Krai Maxim Alchikov with 238.6 points. Ivan Kozlov from St. Petersburg won the competition with a score of 238.9 points.
