The celestial body could crumble into fragments
The place where the meteorite that made a lot of noise on April 19 could theoretically fall in Ukraine has been calculated by Russian scientists. This is the territory between the cities of Bila Tserkva and Fastov, Kyiv region.
Recall that on April 19, a bright flash lit up the sky in the Kyiv region. The Kyiv city military administration immediately reported that it was a fallen American satellite, then there were rumors about a triggered air defense system. Dispute allowed astronomerswho, by the type of flash, determined that, in fact, a meteor was observed near Kyiv, which quite possibly could have become a meteorite (this is the name of a meteor, a fireball that fell to Earth).
According to Sergei Naroenkov, a senior fellow at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the body that entered the dense layers of the earth’s atmosphere was no more than a meter in diameter. Its combustion was distinguished by triple illuminations of the sky associated with flashes of individual fragments that broke off during the fall from the parent meteor.
Later, astronomers from another institute shared in professional social networks about the calculation of the approximate flight path of the “Kyiv” meteor and outlined on the map the approximate place of impact – between the cities of Bila Tserkva and Fastov, Kyiv region. They are separated by 38 kilometers. The celestial body, if it nevertheless became a meteorite, could crumble into fragments. Its largest fragments can weigh up to hundreds of grams.
