“The level of refereeing is nauseating”: Gershkovich on the problems of today's football

On the live broadcast of MK, dedicated to the results of the Russian Football Cup Championship, Mikhail Gershkovich commented on the problem of refereeing.

“The problem with refereeing today is very acute,” says Mikhail Danilovich Gershkovich, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Domestic Football Coaches, former coach of the Russian national team, member of the Executive Committee of the RFU. – The level and quality of refereeing is already nauseating. Why are we so loyal to the judges in terms of responsibility, because everyone suffers from their mistakes? I think we should be very severely punished for such things. If you make a mistake, you are punished. Wrong again – removed. But it all depends on who evaluates the quality of refereeing. There is a committee that prepares judges and gives them direction – today they are stewing in their own juice. Where did the head of the judiciary come from, to be honest, it’s hard to even say. It seems to me that judges should be led by a person not from their midst. And how many problems from VAR? There are situations when no one asks, but they fit in. And often not to the point. And then the whole logical chain of football breaks down. Previously, no one hid their hands behind their backs, because the players knew that penalties were given for handballing, and not for hitting the ball in the hand. In general, VAR does not help yet.”
