On Wednesday, the leadership of the Communist Party held a press conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the USSR. Now, last year’s anniversary (the agreement on the formation of the Union was signed on December 29, 1922) was used by the communists to speak out about the current situation and share plans for 2023. For example, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov criticized the “NATO”, “Anglo-Saxons” and United Russia, and his deputy Yuri Afonin said that the Communists “turned out to be right in everything.” True, the participants of the event did not show their intentions to restore the USSR or at least return power to the Communist Party, limiting themselves to traditional proposals to rename Volgograd to Stalingrad and close the Yeltsin Center, which is harmful to young people.

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov began the press conference with the main thing: “Russia has survived this war declared by NATO and the Anglo-Saxons to us and has every opportunity to strengthen its position.” He stressed that the “hybrid war” turned out to be “brutal and criminal”, but warned the parties to the conflict against the use of nuclear weapons. “Those who carry on these conversations, as a rule, do not understand that these are doomsday weapons,” the Communist Party leader warned. Having indicated support for the Kremlin’s foreign policy in this way, Mr. Zyuganov allowed himself to pass on to criticism of domestic opponents, among whom United Russia and the government of the Russian Federation were expected to fall. In particular, he lamented that the Cabinet of Ministers refused to support the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in its initiatives on the “development budget”, the education program, “care for the land”, and so on. Gennady Zyuganov ended his opening speech with a call to return to Volgograd its “true name” – Stalingrad: “This decision is supported by the guys at the front, youth teams, veterans.”

The first deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Yuri Afonin, who spoke next, said that over the past 30 years, “the communists turned out to be right in everything” – from the assessment of the “NATO” to plans for Russia’s internal development. According to him, in 2023, the Communist Party set itself the goal of doubling the number of members in order to successfully perform in the September elections: “A direct order to every communist is to bring a trained person into the party.” The Communist Party of the Russian Federation pays special attention to new regions – the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, Mr. Afonin continued: “The total number of communists there is already more than 2 thousand people, the red flag of victory is flying more and more brightly in these territories.” The First Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee also stressed that the Communist Party of the Russian Federation is a “fighting party”, since more than 400 of its members went “to fight against fascism” (a special operation in Ukraine), 17 of whom have already died. “They heroically carried the proud title of communist, defending our Motherland,” the politician summed up.

Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Party Nikolai Novikov reported on the events planned in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (established on February 14, 1993) – the All-Russian Party Meeting, a gala evening in the Column Hall of the House of Unions, a “big and interesting exhibition” in the State Duma, etc. According to him, the Russian communists will meet this date “with pride and bitterness”: with pride – because they were able to recreate the party (the CPSU was banned on November 6, 1991), and with bitterness – because many of the constructive ideas of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation “representatives of power or did not hear , or were adopted with a great delay.

The leader of the Russian Komsomol Vladimir Isakov, in his speech, returned to the theme of the special operation and said that Komsomol members not only take part in hostilities, but also “dig trenches, erect dugouts, donate blood, sew chevrons and flags.” In the activities of the young Leninists, Mr. Isakov saw an example of how to properly educate the youth: “For these guys, the image of Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, Alexander Matrosov and the Young Guard is still close to their hearts, and Ostrovsky’s novel How the Steel Was Tempered is a reference book.” But there are examples to the contrary, the communist warned. “If a young man is constantly fed Solzhenitsyn, told that the USSR is only a shortage, constant queues and repressions, show the Yeltsin Center, then the word “Motherland” will be forgotten,” he concluded pathetically.

After that, the communist leaders answered questions from journalists, speaking, among other things, on a number of topical issues. For example, Gennady Zyuganov wondered why the leadership of the RF Ministry of Defense had not yet “cut off” the routes through which Western military equipment was supplied to the east of Ukraine. And Yuri Afonin answered the question of which of the current governors of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation could support in the upcoming elections: “Klychkov and Konovalova (Governor of the Oryol region Andrey Klychkov and head of Khakassia Valentin Konovalov, both members of the Communist Party.— “b”)”. According to him, the Communist Party has strong candidates in all regions where leaders will be elected, but their names are planned to be announced later. It is worth noting that in practice the Communist Party of the Russian Federation often either puts up “technical” rivals against United Russia governors, or does not participate in the elections at all. Thus, last year the Communists did not nominate their candidate for Mari El.
