The leader of the faction of the New People party, Alexei Nechaev, during a speech in the State Duma, proposed restoring access to the Instagram social network (currently unavailable in the Russian Federation, owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in Russia as extremist).
Noting that the continuation of the official blocking of the social network may raise questions, Nechaev recalled that the administration of the network had shown an intention to resolve differences with the Russian authorities. In particular, the vice-president of the parent company apologized back in the spring for the inadmissible statements that took place in relation to “Russian positions.”
“Now moderation is underway on Instagram… Maybe it’s easier for us to consider restoring Instagram together, since it has started to behave well?” suggested the leader of the New People.
Previously, the specialized working groups of the State Duma and the Federation Council have repeatedly noted that the blocking of online platforms is not an end in itself for the Russian authorities, but is an adequate response to the complete indifference to their demands.
