Lawyer Elena Kuderko, in an interview with the Prime agency, shared information about the new rules for checking gas meters, which will come into force on May 1. These changes are aimed at reducing the likelihood of overpayment and fraud detection.
According to the new GOST R 8.1017-2023, during the verification of the meter, the master will find out if magnetic devices have ever been used that can distort readings. If such devices are found, an appropriate act will be drawn up, and proceedings will begin with the gas company.
The purpose of the new rules is not only to save money, but also to ensure safety. More stringent verification requirements will help prevent gas leaks. Only an accredited company included in the list of Rosaccreditation, which is available on their website, will be able to carry out the verification. After verification is completed, data about it is entered into the meter’s passport and reflected in the electronic register of Rosstandart.
If the meter is found to be faulty, the gas bill will be recalculated at a rate that is usually higher than actual consumption. A serious fine is provided for detected fraud related to meters, the lawyer concluded.
