The lawyer explained what to do if money came to the card from a stranger

Fraudsters are increasingly using erroneous translations to confuse their victims and lure them into a criminal scheme. Petr Gusyatnikov, senior managing partner of the law firm PG Partners, spoke about why even an “incorrect” translation should be considered a potential threat and what is the best way to deal with such a situation.

In an interview with the Prime agency, the expert noted that many bank clients may encounter a situation where money is received into their account from an unfamiliar sender. In such cases, on the advice of a lawyer, you should refrain from simply accepting the money and considering it a random lucky coincidence.

“If after the transfer they unexpectedly call you, say that they made a mistake, and ask you to transfer funds, but to another account or phone number, you should not do this. You may become an accomplice in fraudulent schemes,” warns Gusyatnikov. According to him, in this way, attackers create an intricate chain of transfers.

Moreover, even if the transfer was truly accidental, Petr Gusyatnikov emphasizes that it is not recommended to leave the received funds in the account. In accordance with the law, the account owner is given three years to go to court and demand recovery of the erroneously transferred amount as unjust enrichment.

In case of an unexpected transfer to your account, the expert advises to inform your bank about the incident and wait for instructions. Then you will need to write an application for the return of erroneously credited money in order to avoid undesirable consequences.
