Roscosmos CEO Yuri Borisov announced the postponement of the Luna-25 mission, the first lunar mission in the history of modern Russia, to next year. Within its framework, an automatic probe should be sent to an earth satellite.
“Unfortunately (the mission has been postponed to next year.— “b”),” said Mr. Borisov, answering a relevant question on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) (TASS quote).
This is not the first transfer of Luna-25: the last time the mission was promised to be completed before the end of 2022. The main task of the mission is the development of basic technologies for soft landing in the circumpolar region and the conduct of contact studies of a given region of the south pole of the moon. As for the landing of the crew, we recall that the last time they flew to the moon was in 1972 as part of the American mission Apollo 17.
