The Kursk court established the fact of genocide in the region in 1941–1943

The Kursk Regional Court, at the request of the local prosecutor, recognized the actions of the Nazi invaders in the region in 1941–1943 as war crimes and genocide of the peoples of the USSR. About it reported United press service of the judicial system of the Kursk region.
The application to recognize the actions of the occupiers as war crimes and genocide was submitted on behalf of Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov and has been considered since the end of last year. Governor Roman Starovoyt, head of the regional museum of local lore Oleg Pushkarev and chairman of the public organization of war, labor, armed forces and law enforcement veterans Gennady Vetrov took part in the debate. Testimony in the trial was given by representatives of the scientific community, eyewitnesses of the events that took place in the region during the occupation.
The court was presented with previously established and newly discovered facts of crimes committed by the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the Kursk region. We are talking about mass executions and torture of civilians and prisoners of war. According to the regional prosecutor’s office, the number of victims of the occupation regime in the region within its modern borders exceeded 237 thousand. The amount of material damage amounted to more than 23 trillion rubles.
From the end of 2022, the courts of Russian regions, including the Belgorod and Voronezh regions neighboring Kursk, satisfied similar statements from local prosecutors. The departments explained that the processes were initiated in order to protect the national interests of the Russian Federation, the legal rights and interests of an indefinite circle of people (relatives of the victims), as well as to subsequently communicate to the world community information about the victims of the invaders and punitive forces during the Great Patriotic War and the restoration of historical justice.
