The representative of the Krasnodar region won 3rd place at the World Championships in the capital of Serbia. The tournament takes place in September in Belgrade. Over 1,000 representatives of 3 wrestling styles compete for medals.
There are 4 Kuban players on the Russian national team. Freestyle wrestlers Abdulla Kurbanov (up to 125 kilograms) and Ekaterina Poleshchuk (up to 55 kilograms), as well as followers of the Greco-Roman style Aues Gonibov (up to 82 kilograms) and Alan Ostaev (weight up to 87 kilograms). As a result of the fights, Aues Gonibov took bronze, defeating his opponent from Turkey.
The Minister of Physical Education and Sports of the region, Seraphim Timchenko, emphasized that wrestling is a basic sport in the region. According to him, the championship proved that our wrestlers still provide worthy competition to the strongest athletes on the planet and achieve high results. The award and the Olympic license were further confirmation of this.
Earlier, MK in Kuban wrote that Abdulla Kurbanov won 5th place at the championship and became the owner of an Olympic license.
