Russian President Vladimir Putin has been informed of an assassination attempt on the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov. This was announced by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“Of course, the president constantly receives reports, including on such high-profile cases that concern the head of the region, and such an important region as Crimea, in the current situation,” he said.
Peskov stressed that it is difficult to scare Aksyonov with an assassination attempt, since he is a “real fighter.” The Kremlin wished him strength of mind and strength.
Earlier July 3 FSB reported on preventing an assassination attempt on Aksenov. Employees of the department detained a Russian citizen born in 1988, who was recruited by the Ukrainian special services. It is specified that he was trained in Ukraine in reconnaissance and subversive activities, including mastering a course in mine-explosive business. He planned to blow up Aksenov’s car, but did not manage to carry out his plan. Russian special services detained a man when he was taking an explosive device from a hiding place.
A criminal case was initiated against the detainee under articles on attempted terrorist act (part 1 of article 30, part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal acquisition of explosives (part 1 of article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The maximum penalty under the first article is 20 years in prison, under the second – eight years.
