Telegraph: 50 thousand LGBT soldiers are fighting in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
About 50 thousand LGBT soldiers are fighting in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes The Telegraph.
According to the publication, gay fighters of the armed forces of Ukraine hope that their service during the conflict will contribute to the legalization of same-sex marriages in the republic.
“When you, being a gay and a doctor, evacuate someone, the wounded do not ask you to stop the evacuation and wait for another doctor,” Alina Sarnatskaya, 36, who is in one of the units of the Ukrainian army in the Donbass, shared the details.
Earlier, Estonia became the first post-Soviet republic to legalize same-sex marriage. The regulation itself will come into force in 2024, it will enable persons who have reached the age of majority to marry, regardless of their gender.
