The Kremlin was skeptical about the summit in Moldova because of the “divided Europe”

Russia will closely follow the summit of the European political community in Moldova on June 1, but it is impossible to talk about a full-fledged political process in a divided Europe. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

“It is, of course, possible to talk about some kind of European processes in divided Europe, in Europe, when there is no dialogue between many countries with Russia, but this is not a full-fledged political process in Europe, and it cannot be full-fledged,” he said.

At the same time, Moscow will closely monitor the rhetoric that will dominate the summit, Peskov added.

The summit of the European Political Community will be held on June 1-2 in Chisinau, it will be attended by at least 44 heads of state and government out of 50 invited, informed May 29, Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu. At the summit, among others, Armenia and Azerbaijan may to sign a peace agreement on the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, media reported earlier.

The European Political Community itself was created last year at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, the first summit was held in October in the Czech Republic.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu in an interview with Bloomberg on the eve of the summit toldthat the republic can join the European Union together with Transnistria by 2030. Moldova officially received the status of a candidate for EU membership last year. On May 19, Sandu assured that the republic would fulfill all the conditions for joining the European Union by mid-2023.
