The Kremlin said there were no grounds for a peace agreement with Kiev

There are no grounds for a peace agreement with Ukraine, the military operation will continue in the foreseeable future, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. He told The New York Times about it. writes TASS.

“There are no grounds for an agreement at the moment. We will continue the operation for the foreseeable future,” he said.

Peskov has repeatedly pointed out the prematureness of talks about a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Kremlin representative at the end of June pointed outthat there are certain efforts to bring the percentage of achievement of the goals of a special military operation into a political and diplomatic channel, but so far there are no prerequisites for this, so the special operation continues. Peskov stressed that the main thing for the Russian Federation is to achieve the goals that the president has formulated, and they will be achieved.

On June 11, Peskov, in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, also stated that there was no “foundation” for negotiations with Ukraine. He listed the probable reasons for the lack of starting a dialogue: the unwillingness and unpreparedness of the Ukrainian authorities, as well as “the impermissibility of the regime on the part of the owners.” Whom he means by “masters”, the Kremlin spokesman did not specify. At the same time, on March 10, he stated that bilateral relations between Russia and Ukraine are inevitable in the future.

Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held talks several times in February and March 2022. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29 in Istanbul. After that, the process was frozen, since Kyiv withdrew from it.
