Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans to participate in the UN General Assembly in New York. This was announced by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov.

“So far, the president has no such plans,” said a Kremlin spokesman (quote according to RIA Novosti). The 78th session of the General Assembly of the organization will officially begin in September this year.

July 19 at the press office of the South African President reported about Putin’s decision not to go to the BRICS summit in South Africa. Moscow will be represented by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Later Peskov clarifiedthat Putin will take part in the events via video link.

The BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) will be held in the African Republic from 22 to 24 August. It will be held in person for the first time in three years.

At the end of April, it became known that Putin had received an invitation to the summit. At the same time, the visit of the Russian president is complicated by a warrant issued on March 17 for his arrest by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. As Peskov stated, the president will make a decision on a trip to the summit “closer to the point”, and stressed that Russia “in any case will actively participate” in the work of the BRICS.
