The Kremlin opposed the freezing of the conflict in Ukraine

Russia shares the position that the Ukrainian conflict should not be frozen. About it declared TASS press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“Russia is only considering the possibility of completing a special military operation: ensuring its interests, achieving the goals facing Russia either through a special military operation, or by other available means,” Peskov stressed.

Freezing the conflict between the parties was also opposed in the West. In particular, on May 21, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz notedthat peace talks on the situation in Ukraine should not be aimed at freezing the conflict.

Since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the parties have held talks several times in February and March 2022. The first three face-to-face meetings took place in Belarus in February-March, and the fourth round of the Russian-Ukrainian dialogue was held on March 29, 2022 in Istanbul. After that, the process was frozen, since Kyiv withdrew from it.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is open to negotiations. At the same time, Ukraine has a document preventing their resumption. On October 4, 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree refusing to negotiate with Russia as long as Vladimir Putin is its president.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine has been going on since February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia. Since October 19 last year, martial law has been introduced in the regions.
