Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on the possible return of the death penalty in Russia. He said that the Kremlin is not participating in the discussion on lifting the moratorium.

“We are not currently taking part in this discussion,” Mr. Peskov answered the journalist’s question.

After the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, discussions about lifting the moratorium on the death penalty in Russia resumed in the Russian parliament. Three of the five Duma factions recalled that they have long been in favor of such a decision. In particular, the leader of United Russia, Vladimir Vasiliev, said that making such a decision “will meet the moods and expectations” of society.
