The Kremlin hopes for the return of evacuated residents of Karabakh to their homes

The Kremlin hopes to stabilize the situation and create conditions for the return of evacuated residents of Nagorno-Karabakh to their homes, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

During the briefing, reporters asked him whether Russia would be able to accept evacuees from the region.

“We don’t yet know how the need will arise. Our peacekeepers provided all the necessary services and made efforts to help these people leave dangerous areas. We proceed from the fact that a period of sustainable ceasefire will now begin, conditions will be created for the return of displaced persons to their places of residence,” leads his words TASS.

The Russian Ministry of Defense previously announced the evacuation of about 5,000 residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. In particular, residents of Mardakert, Martuni and Askeran regions were taken out. They were delivered to the location of Russian peacekeepers in the region. People were provided with places to rest and hot meals, and they were also provided with medical assistance, the department specified. Later, the military reported that after the cessation of hostilities, the peacekeepers had remain 1,340 evacuees, including 607 children.

Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorism measures” necessary for the “restoration of the constitutional order” in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19. The Russian Foreign Ministry called to “immediately stop the bloodshed” and return to the implementation of trilateral agreements.

The Kremlin previously emphasized that Russian peacekeepers continue to perform their functions in the region. On September 20, the unrecognized republic announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire and disarmament of troops with the participation of Russian peacekeepers.
