The Kremlin has no position on the idea of banning foreign agents from participating in elections

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told Kommersant FM that the Kremlin has no position on the A Just Russia – For Truth initiative, which prohibits foreign agents from running in elections.
“We have no position, this is not our initiative. Discussions are starting now – they will be discussed,” Mr. Peskov answered Kommersant FM’s question whether the initiative restricts the right of Russians to be elected to public office.
Earlier today, April 2, the leader of the party “A Just Russia – For Truth” and the first deputy leader of the faction Dmitry Gusev reported, that they submitted to the State Duma a bill banning standing in elections with the status of a foreign agent. The party later announced that it had sent the initiative for revision.
Current legislation allows Russians with foreign agent status to nominate themselves for elections. However, with all the restrictions imposed by the status. In particular, they must indicate their status as a foreign agent in the application for consent to run for office, in campaign and information materials.
