Regional authorities, at the request of the presidential administration, compiled lists of proxies for the “government candidate” in the 2024 presidential elections. Last week the lists arrived in Moscow, writes RBC with reference to sources. Earlier, Kommersant’s interlocutors close to the presidential administration said that the start of the informal presidential campaign is scheduled for November and is timed to coincide with the opening of the international exhibition and forum “Russia”.
According to RBC, the presidential administration outlined “increasing the level of support for the candidate” in its audience as the main task of the trustee. Thus, citizens included in the list of trusted persons must meet several criteria: publicly support the president and the military operation, be well recognized and have a high level of trust and low anti-rating. One of RBC’s interlocutors clarified that these indicators should be based on sociological data.
In addition, proxies should be willing to participate in the campaign and “incur time costs,” have public speaking skills, debate experience, and be “trainable.” Specifically, proxy candidates will receive training in public speaking skills, as well as “the core message of the campaign and the values that the candidate stands for.” According to the publication’s source, training will start in October and will last until the end of December.
Legally, the presidential election campaign will begin from the moment they are appointed by the Federation Council. According to Russian law, this decision must be made no earlier than 100 days and no later than 90 days before voting day, which will be March 17, 2024. That is, elections are expected to be scheduled from December 8 to December 18, 2023.
At the same time, the informal presidential campaign could start as early as November, sources close to the presidential administration told Kommersant. It will be timed to coincide with the opening of the international exhibition and forum “Russia”. According to one of the possible scenarios on this platform, the current Russian President Vladimir Putin may announce his nomination for a new presidential term.
