The Kremlin explained why Putin did not talk about sanctions with Macron and Scholz

Vladimir Putin really never touched upon the topic of sanctions in his contacts with the leaders of the countries that imposed these sanctions. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“Now we probably see non-verbal confirmation of the president’s rightness, we see de facto confirmation. I mean data on the growth of our economy, data on the expansion of our economy,” Peskov said.

The Kremlin also recalled that Russia, according to the results of 2022, entered the top five largest economies in the world and, according to the World Bank, overtook Germany in terms of purchasing power parity and economic volume. On August 22, Putin declared at a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects.

“They have their own business, we have our own business. Our affairs are more important to us,” Peskov summed up.

Newspaper Bild published a transcript of a conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after their conversations with Putin on March 4, 2022. Politicians say the president did not mention the topic of sanctions in phone conversations with them.

“Something worries me more than negotiations: he [Путин] does not complain about sanctions. I don’t know if he did it in conversation with you. But he didn’t even mention sanctions,” Scholz said. Macron confirmed that in a conversation with him, Putin did not talk about sanctions.

At the same time, as Scholz told the French president, Putin spoke with him about his view of Ukraine and how to find a compromise. “He talked about demilitarization, denazification,” Scholz said.
