The Kremlin did not consider it necessary to mirror the response to EU visa restrictions

Russia, when responding to visa restrictions imposed by the EU, will be guided by its own interests, while response measures are not always mirror-like, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“The main idea of the President was that we will do what suits our interests. Of course, counter-steps will correspond to our interests, but not always those that are of a mirror nature,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
According to him, Russia is still interested in tourists from unfriendly countries, who should see the country and understand that what they see and see about it in their countries is a lie.
“Of course, if we are talking about completely inadequate behavior towards our diplomats, participants in certain international events, then our answers will be more mirror-like in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, which is the cornerstone of diplomatic relations,” Peskov stressed.
On September 9, the Council of the European Union decided to completely suspend the visa facilitation agreement between the EU and Russia. For Russian citizens, this means that the visa fee will increase from 35 to 80 euros, the list of supporting documents for applying will increase, and the rules for issuing multiple visas will be tightened.
