The Kremlin did not comment on the decision of the State Duma Committee to draft into the army from 18 to 30 years old

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he had “nothing to say” about today’s decision by the State Duma Committee on Defense to draft into the army at the age of 18-30, and not 21-30 years old, as planned. According to him, the authorities are discussing this issue.

“Let’s turn to the Ministry of Defense or the Duma at this stage. There is nothing to say yet. There is a discussion going on,” the spokesman said at a briefing when he was asked to comment on the decision of the relevant committee.

Today the head of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov informedthat the lower limit of the draft age will remain the same. Conscription into the Russian army will be from 18 to 30 years old, without a gradual increase in the lower bar to 21 years old, as expected. The norms will come into force from the spring call.

At the same time, earlier Dmitry Peskov saidthat the president “conceptually agreed” with the change in the draft age from 18-27 to 21-30 years.

In December, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu proposed changing the limits of the draft age, as well as increasing the Russian army to 1.5 million people. Dmitry Peskov saidthat such a decision is due to the “proxy war” that the West is waging against Russia.
