The Kremlin considers the transfer of confiscated assets of Malofeev to Ukraine a blow to the United States itself

The United States, by its decision to transfer assets confiscated from Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev to Ukraine, encroached on the right of ownership, which will hit them themselves. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“As for the United States, such decisions hit them like a boomerang … this is nothing more than a direct encroachment on the absolutely sacred property right for the United States. This undermines trust – the trust of investors, the trust of the owners of some assets that are somehow connected with America, ”he said.

The confiscation of Russian assets in the United States, Peskov believes, is illegal and illegitimate, which under “normal conditions” would be the subject of a lawsuit with “absolutely reinforced concrete prospects” to win it.

“But, unfortunately, there is no such prospect in the United States now, because we do not have the opportunity to challenge our rights in court,” he said.

According to Peskov, Russia will not be able to leave such steps without reciprocity, it is necessary to look for “non-linear, non-standard” response options, since there is little that can be done in the United States itself.

US Attorney General authorized the transfer of Malofeev’s confiscated Russian assets for use in Ukraine in early February, the first of its kind. Malofeev’s funds were withdrawn from his bank account last June for “acting or intending to act on behalf of the Russian government,” CNN noted. On May 10, the Prosecutor General approved the start of the transfer of assets to Ukraine.

“While this is the first transfer by the United States of confiscated Russian funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine, it will not be the last,” the official said in a statement (quote according to Reuters).
