The Kremlin compared the West’s approach to the Minsk agreements with a game of thimbles

Russia was deceived during the negotiations on the Minsk agreements, which were drawn up with the participation of Germany, France and Ukraine, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at Rossiya-1.
According to Peskov, “it was a game of thimbles.”
“And this aggravated the situation, it inspired the Kiev regime in many ways, freed their hands to organize a massacre of Russians in their country, and this brought a special military operation closer,” he added.
The first Minsk agreements were signed in September 2014 by representatives of the trilateral contact group (Russia, Ukraine, OSCE). They completed the active part of the hostilities in the south-east of Ukraine.
The second Minsk agreements were signed already in 2015. They were also attended by representatives of two European countries – Germany and France.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at the end of 2022 that all participants understood that the Minsk agreements would only freeze the conflict in eastern Ukraine, but would not solve it. Later, former French President Francois Hollande and former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke in a similar way.
