The Kremlin commented on the words of the Ambassador of China about the “boundless friendship” of the countries

The entire context of relations between Russia and China is set out in two documents signed at the end of March by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This statement was made by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the words of the Chinese Ambassador to the EU Fu Cong about friendship with Russia.

“We focus on the content and spirit of the contacts that took place between President Putin and President Xi most recently in Moscow. And the whole context of their mutual understanding is set out in two documents, in two signed statements, which were adopted following the results of Russian-Chinese negotiations,” he stressed.

Peskov noted the content of the meeting between the two leaders and added that their talks “fully cover the entire range of issues that are on the joint agenda.”

On March 20, Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow for a three-day visit, during which negotiations were held with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As a result of the visit, the leaders of Russia and China signed a number of statements. In particular, a document was adopted on a plan for the development of key areas of Russian-Chinese economic cooperation until 2030.

Earlier today, April 5, Chinese Ambassador to the EU Fu Cong named rhetorically, the expression about the “boundless friendship” between Russia and China, enshrined in the declaration signed in February 2022 by Putin and Xi Jinping. The diplomat stressed that Beijing does not support Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, and does not provide military assistance to Russia. At the same time, Fu Cong noted, the PRC government believes that the reasons for the start of the conflict are more complicated than the West is trying to present them.

The day before, April 4, Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU was concerned about China’s “friendly position” towards the Russian Federation, and called on Beijing to “constructively influence” Moscow. In response to the Chinese Foreign Ministry notedthat they are ready to discuss with the EU a political settlement of the situation in Ukraine. From April 5 to 7, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit China.
