The Kremlin commented on the visit of the French President to Kazakhstan

Relations between Russia and Kazakhstan have historical roots and are relations of strategic partnership; Moscow values ​​them very much. Thus, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on the trip of French President Emmanuel Macron to Kazakhstan to strengthen relations and export uranium to the EU.

“Kazakhstan is a sovereign state and, of course, develops relations with all countries at its own discretion. In turn, we have historical relations with Kazakhstan, relations of strategic partnership; these are our allies. Our interests are united in many integration formats, and we are developing our own relations with Kazakhstan, which we value very much, and in this case we see complete reciprocity on the part of Astana. As for the uranium market, yes, it is competitive, but in this case the position of the Russian side in this market is very difficult to overestimate,” Peskov said.

According to the Kremlin representative, the position of the Russian side in the uranium market is very difficult to overestimate. Earlier, Bloomberg, citing sources, wrote that the purpose of Macron’s visits is to “increase France’s energy security,” since the Central Asian countries are rich in uranium.

Macron arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit on November 1. After negotiations between the leaders in a narrow format, communication continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from the two countries. During negotiations in a narrow format, Macron and Tokayev discussed the prospects for the Kazakh-French strategic partnership, strengthening political dialogue, as well as the development of cooperation in a number of areas, including trade, economic, energy, investment, etc.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev named Macron’s visit is a historic event. After Kazakhstan, Macron is expected to visit Uzbekistan on November 2.
