The proposal to establish a two-week truce in Ukraine on the occasion of Easter did not reach the Kremlin. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
“No one nominated her. She was not nominated. <...> But let’s not forget that Moscow has already put forward such initiatives, and itself adhered to this, but faced the unwillingness of the Kyiv regime to follow such a regime, ”Peskov recalled.
The fact that Pope Francis proposed to establish a truce in Ukraine for two weeks from April 9 during the celebration of Catholic and Orthodox Easter, earlier informed Chairman of the World Union of Old Believers Leonid Sevastyanov, who spoke with the pontiff. In 2023, Catholic Easter takes place on April 9, and Orthodox Easter on April 16.
From 6 to 7 January 2023, on the Russian initiative, introduced a ceasefire regime along the entire line of combat contact between the parties in Ukraine. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin gave the corresponding order the day before. The idea of a ceasefire was not supported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian side repeatedly violated the set silence mode. The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the Russian military observed the ceasefire until midnight on January 7.
