At the moment, it can hardly be said that Germany takes into account the interests of the Russian Federation and contacts at the highest level can become productive. This was announced by the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, answering a question about a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
At the same time, Peskov emphasized that the president never rules out contacts at the highest level and always talks about his openness. But Putin also remains a supporter of contacts not just for the sake of the process itself, but for the sake of the result.
“Judging by the statements of representatives of Germany, it is hardly possible to say that the scales are tipping in favor of at least some consideration for the interests of the Russian Federation. But, on the other hand, time contributes to the transformation of the position of a number of countries, we see this,” the presidential press secretary noted.
November 12 Scholz in an interview with Heilbronner Stimme statedthat he is ready to negotiate with Putin on the issue of resolving the Ukrainian crisis. However, according to him, in order to start negotiations, Russia will have to fulfill the demand for “withdrawal of troops.” On November 11, German media reported that the German government decided allocate 8 billion euros for military assistance to Kyiv in 2024 instead of 4 billion, as previously planned.
