Poland’s refusal to allow Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to participate in the 29th meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) is a “big headache” for the organization, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The Kremlin representative recalled the events of the end of last year and the beginning of this year, when the OSCE rejected Russia’s proposals on security issues. “Such statements are unlikely to cause any discomfort for our country, especially for Sergei Lavrov. But the fact that this is a big headache for the OSCE as an organization is unequivocal,” Peskov said.
The meeting of the Council of OSCE Foreign Ministers is to be held in Lodz on December 1-2. Previously at the Foreign Ministry declaredthat not allowing Lavrov to participate is a provocative decision that is incompatible with the status of the chairman of the organization. The ministry also noted that throughout the year, instead of strengthening the OSCE, Warsaw was destroying its foundations.
Last week, Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, also informedthat Russian parliamentarians will not be able to take part in the autumn session of the OSCE PA due to the refusal of the Polish side to issue visas. According to the senator, at the meeting of the OSCE PA Standing Committee on November 25, which will be held in Warsaw, it is planned to discuss an amendment to the regulations, which will create a mechanism and provide grounds for suspending the mandate of individual states in the assembly’s bodies.
