The statement of the head of military intelligence Kirill Budanov that the fighters of the PMC “Wagner” during the rebellion on June 24 were able to reach the storage of nuclear weapons, is a stuffing, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

At a conference call, journalists asked Peskov if the Kremlin had any information about what happened in connection with Budanov’s statement.

“The Kremlin has no such information. It looks like another stuffing, ”Peskov replied.

Budanov in an interview with Reuters declaredthat the Wagner fighters were able to get to the Voronezh-45 nuclear base, they allegedly expected to get their hands on small Soviet nuclear devices in order to “up the stakes” in their rebellion. At the same time, the doors of the vault were closed, so they could not get into the technical section of the base, he added. As noted by Reuters, Budanov did not provide any evidence, but partly confirmed his words “a source close to the Kremlin”, according to which “Wagner” managed to penetrate “into a zone of special interest.”

On the night of June 24, PMC Wagner, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, attempted an armed rebellion in Russia. As the founder of the PMC previously stated, the fighters had 200 km to go to Moscow. After negotiations with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Prigozhin decided to stop the movement to the capital and return to the rear camps of PMCs. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, specified that the criminal case initiated against Prigozhin would be terminated, and he himself “would go to Belarus.”

On July 6, Lukashenka said that Prigozhin was not in Belarus now, but the Wagner fighters were in their camps in Russia. On July 10, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that on June 29, Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with the commanders and leadership of the Wagner PMC, including Prigozhin.
