The Kremlin called the EU decision on visas for Russians “bad”

Dmitry Peskov, at the request of journalists, commented on the EU’s refusal from a simplified visa regime with Russia.
“This is bad for the Russians,” the Kremlin speaker said, “they will get visas longer and more difficult.”
At the same time, Peskov said that it is still difficult to say exactly how this will work and what consequences it will lead to.
He added that after the abolition of the simplified regime, the situation will become “more difficult for the Europeans as well.”
“This is another ridiculous decision from a series of continuing absurdities,” Peskov stressed.
Answering a question about possible symmetrical measures, he said that Russia would make decisions based on the interests of its citizens.
The visa facilitation agreement between the European Union and Russia was in effect from June 1, 2007 and regulated the issuance of visas for staying in EU countries for a period of not more than 90 days within a 180-day period, and also provided for the issuance of multiple-entry visas for up to five years. In accordance with this document, the period for issuing a visa was to be 10 calendar days and up to 30 calendar days in cases requiring more careful study.
Now, according to ATOR, the terms for issuing a Schengen visa for Russians will be from 3 months to six months. In addition, applicants will have to provide more documents than previously required.
