The decision of the foreign ministers of the countries of the European Union (EU) to completely stop the visa facilitation agreement with Russia is ridiculous, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation. According to him, in relation to foreign citizens, Moscow will continue to act solely in its own interests.

“This is bad for the Russians, because it will take longer and more difficult to get visas, most likely, we do not know exactly how it will be, but most likely it will be longer and more difficult. But, of course, the withdrawal of this agreement will also make the situation more difficult for the Europeans. Therefore, this is another ridiculous decision from a series of such ongoing absurdities,” said Mr. Peskov during a press conference.

Asked about possible travel restrictions for foreign nationals, the Kremlin spokesman said Moscow is moving confidently along the path that best suits its interests.

Earlier, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, at a press conference following an informal meeting of the EU Council in Prague, said that the foreign ministers of 27 EU countries agreed to suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia. He also noted that the European Commission will prepare recommendations on what the association countries can do with visas already issued to citizens of the Russian Federation.
