Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that there are no “hardware restrictions” for the rest of Russian officials abroad. In his opinion, the decision on where to spend the holidays, each official makes himself. The spokesman called it a matter of ethics.
Yesterday, January 16, the governor of the Vologda Oblast, Oleg Kuvshinnikov (United Russia) “strongly recommended» deputies and officials of the region “refrain from traveling to foreign countries.” According to Kommersant, similar unofficial bans have been introduced in the Ulyanovsk and Tambov regions, as well as in the Republic of Mari El, Chuvashia and North Ossetia. Local authorities cannot officially prohibit officials from leaving the country.
“No, in this case there are no, let’s say, hardware restrictions, it is rather an ethical issue, here everyone makes his own decision. Of course, the leaders within the entrusted team can with such recommendations (on the inadmissibility of holidays abroad.— ”b”) to speak, this is completely normal, especially in the current situation,” said Mr. Peskov.
Restrictions on travel abroad for officials and deputies began to be introduced after two scandals related to the New Year holidays of regional deputies. First, sharp criticism of the Russians was caused by a video of a non-partisan deputy of the Kursk Regional Duma, Maxim Vasiliev, having a rest – a video with him from Mexico got on the Internet, and then a selfie of a member of the United Russia (ER) faction in the Vologda Legislative Assembly Denis Dolzhenko from Dubai.
