In the Moscow Regional Court, another court session was held in the case of the escape of Alexander Mavridi, the killer who killed a well-known businessman nicknamed the “sausage king”, and four more prisoners from the temporary detention facility near Moscow. Recall that the resonant escape took place on August 6, 2021, when Alexander Mavridi and his cellmates (although by all the rules the alleged killer had to sit separately) escaped from the IVS Istra, unscrewing the locks on the doors with a wrench.
It is worth noting that if last time the courtroom was guarded by ordinary police officers in bulletproof vests, today two employees of the special forces unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and two more soldiers of the FSSP special unit were on duty next to the cells of the defendants. This is probably due to the fact that this time all the defendants, except for Mavridi, were sitting in the same box – at the last meeting, not only Alexander, but also one of the fugitives were separated from the others.
Accused of the murder of Vladimir Marugov again showed remarkable originality. Earlier, he came to one of the meetings in a real papier-mâché mask, which he either made himself or someone gave it to him. Mavridi refused to comment on his performance to journalists at all.
Today, before the start of the trial, at the moment when journalists entered the hall to communicate with the defendants, Mavridi again hid his face – this time behind a drawing with a bloody plot drawn in the style of surrealism. The piece of paper shows the bearded face of a man with a scar across his left eye, with bright red lips, as if sucking on the heads of two women. Another girl is drawn a little further away. It is as if a scalp was taken from the head of a bearded character, and something that looks like a bloody fountain beats upwards from the skull.
– Patience. You will find out everything in the future, – Mavridi’s lawyer Ilya Makarov answered the question of our correspondent about what this second “mask” means.
During the court session, a witness was also interviewed – an assistant on duty at the IVS IVS, from which the escape took place. During the interview, she said that the fugitives brought the wrench with them when they moved from SIZO N8. Due to the negligence of two employees of the Istra detention center, the instrument remained with the prisoners. It was this witness who discovered the escape – she woke up during the shift change at about 4:40 am on August 6, and, looking at the CCTV monitors, she saw that two of the eight prisoners were left in the cell.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 19.
