Iranian refugee Meran Karimi Nasseri, whose story was inspired by Steven Spielberg and made the film “Terminal” about a passenger stranded at the airport, died at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
This was announced on Saturday TASS.
A source at the airport said it happened on a Saturday afternoon. “I can confirm that he died at noon today,” he said. The source also specified the place where Nasseri died: “in terminal 2F of the airport, where he lived for the past few weeks.”
In Spielberg’s film, the protagonist Victor Naworski flies to New York, but while he was in the air, a military coup took place in his home country of Krakozhia (a fictional country in Eastern Europe) and it ceased to exist. Because of this, his American visa is no longer valid, he cannot go through passport control, but he cannot fly back either, since all flights to his country have been cancelled.
The plot is based on a real story that happened in 1988 with the Iranian refugee Nasseri, who was forced to stay in a Paris airport because all his documents were stolen.
