The Moscow City Electoral Committee (MGIK) has deprived the status of a candidate for mayor of Moscow seven people due to failure to provide documents. All of them are self-nominated. The remaining five contenders for the post of mayor of the capital – from parties – are registered as candidates for the elections, reports Interfax.
The IPCC registered as candidates for mayor the current head of the city, Sergei Sobyanin (nominated by United Russia), Vice Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshev (LDPR), Vice Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov (New People), member of the bureau of the Moscow city committee of the Communist Party, head Commission on Science and Industry of the Moscow City Duma Leonid Zyuganov and First Deputy Head of the Just Russia-For Truth faction in the State Duma Dmitry Gusev.
Deputy Chairman of the IPCC Dmitry Reut during the meeting of the commission said that the remaining seven applicants for the post of mayor did not submit the list of documents required for registration by the deadline – until 18:00 on July 7.
The status of candidates for mayor of Moscow was lost by self-nominated candidates Nasib Huseyn oglu Gasanov, Zhanna Gorbacheva, Alexander Gorlov, Iosif Dzhagaev, Pavel Novikov, Alexander Tishchenko and Sergey Zaletin (Russia’s Revival Party).
Elections of the mayor of Moscow will be held from 8 to 10 September. On July 10, the IPCC approved the cost estimate for the election of the mayor of the capital. This year they will cost the budget twice as much as in 2018. However, over the past five years there have been significant changes in the electoral process, in particular, voting has become multi-day and a remote format has appeared. Multi-day voting led to an increase in the cost of salaries of members of election commissions: if in 2018 380 million rubles were spent on paying their labor, then this year 601.8 million are already planned. At the same time, the IPCC intends to reduce their office expenses.
