The IOC will consider organizing the Olympic eSports Games

The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, has expressed his desire to organize the Olympic eSports Games. TASS reported this on Saturday.
Bach noted that he asked a special IOC commission to study this issue. He emphasized that about 3 billion people play computer games, and of these, more than 500 million are interested in e-sports. This means that eSports has become a significant and popular subculture among millions of people around the world.
Recently, two Russian e-sportsmen Daniil “Putrick” Abdrakhmanov and Egor “Swizzy” Lusiko found themselves at the center of a scandal. The $200,000 prize they won at the Fortnite championship has been revoked. The tournament organizers, Epic Games, canceled their victory and refused to pay them a reward due to their Russian citizenship. This case highlights the challenges and controversies that esports athletes can face in their careers.
E-sports in Russia was officially recognized as a sport in June 2016 after being excluded from the All-Russian Register of Sports in 2006. This decision was made by the then head of the Russian Ministry of Sports, Vyacheslav Fetisov.
