International sports federations will have the right and opportunity to check Russian athletes for compliance with the criteria for admission to the 2024 Olympics not only before the start of the competition, but also directly during the Games. Mark Adams, director of the International Olympic Committee for Communications, spoke about this on Wednesday, November 29.
The sports official confirmed that “at some point we will have to give clarity to athletes about their participation,” although there is no final decision yet as “the situation is changing all the time.”
Adams stressed that the process of sending out requests, collecting and analyzing information to determine whether athletes meet the criteria for admission to the Olympic Games “will continue until the Olympics and, possibly, during the Games.”
Earlier, the senior coach of the Russian cross-country skiing team, Yuri Borodavko, shared his opinion on the admission of Russians to the Olympic Games in a neutral status. In his opinion, of the Russian athletes trying to make roguesso as not to allow even those who fulfill all the requirements to enter the Olympics.
At the same time, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov emphasized that every crisis situation is time for new opportunities. He suggested that Russian athletes devote time to education, which obviously would not be superfluous.
