The Investigative Committee has completed the investigation of the case against the ex-chief of the Stavropol State Traffic Safety Inspectorate

The Investigative Committee completed the investigation of the criminal case against the former head of the traffic police department for the Stavropol Territory, Alexei Safonov, accused of creating a criminal community. This was reported by press service TFR.
“In the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasus Federal District, with operational support from the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, a criminal investigation has been completed against the former head of the traffic police department for the Stavropol Territory, Alexey Safonov,” the department reported. The case has been sent to court.
In total, Alexey Safonov was charged with 102 episodes of criminal activity under articles of Part 3 of Art. 210, part 5 art. 290, part 6 art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (creation of a criminal community and participation in it using one’s official position, receiving a bribe, abuse of official powers).
From the case materials it follows that no later than 2013, Alexey Safonov, together with other persons, created an organized criminal community for receiving bribes, and headed it. According to the investigation, employees of the traffic police department for the Stavropol Territory Vitaly Melchikov, Alexander Arzhanukhin, as well as local residents Elena Melchikova, Evgeniy Sotnikov, Alena Sotnikova, Vladimir Parakhin, Vitaly Gorlov, entered the criminal community.
In total, community members from 2013 to 2021 took 101 bribes in the Stavropol Territory in the amount of 21.8 million rubles. Bribes were taken in exchange for not bringing truck drivers to administrative responsibility for various violations.
