The investigation calls for the arrest of Radio Liberty editor Alsa Kurmasheva

The investigation intends to petition for the arrest of Alsu Kurmasheva, editor of Radio Liberty (recognized as a foreign agent), detained in Kazan on October 18. This was reported to Kommersant in the Sovetsky District Court of Kazan.

The editor of Radio Liberty faces five years in prison under Part 3 of Art. 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, the investigation notes that Alsou Kurmasheva carried out “purposeful collection of information in the field of military, military-technical activities, which, if obtained by foreign sources, could be used against the security of the Russian Federation.” According to the investigation, the journalist collected information about the mobilized teachers of one of the universities in order to use it to prepare “alternative analytical materials” for international authorities.
Alsou Kurmasheva lives in Prague with her husband and two children. She came to Russia for family reasons back in May, but was unable to leave the country because her Russian and American passports were confiscated, since she did not report the fact of receiving a second citizenship.
The European Union condemned the detention of Radio Liberty journalist Alsu Kurmasheva. EU High Representative Josep Borrell said: “Russia is obliged to respect its international human rights obligations, including freedom of expression.”
The decision on the preventive measure will be made today at a meeting that will begin at 13:00. Since her arrest, the journalist has been in a temporary detention center.
