The International Ice Hockey Federation has suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus for the 2024/25 season

The IIHF press service issued a statement saying that the decision to suspend the Russian and Belarusian national teams from participation in competitions under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation is being extended for another season.

The document notes that the corresponding decision was made by the IIHF leadership at a council meeting on February 12-13 “based on a thorough analysis.”

“The IIHF Council has come to the conclusion that the return of national teams and clubs of the Russian Federation and Belarus to the competition under the auspices of the organization is not yet safe. Therefore, the teams ... will not take part in the 2024/25 season,” the distributed document says.

It is also clarified that the issue of the participation of the national teams of Russia and Belarus for the 2025/26 season will be considered by the council in May 2025.
