The International Boxing Association (IBA) has terminated the membership of the national associations of Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The reason was their violation of several provisions of the IBA charter, including those regarding dual membership. The decision was made by the IBA Congress in Dubai, TASS reports.
The IBA is headed by Russian Umar Kremlev. The association decided not to follow the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their own flag. In this regard, the IOC announced the need for sanctions against the IBA. In June IOC excluded IBA from the Olympic movement, citing financial and management problems as the reason. In October, the IBA demanded that rival World Boxing, which aims to oust the “old” federation from governing amateur boxing, abandon its name.
