The increase in lending to the population in the Russian Federation reached a record 6 trillion rubles – Kommersant

The loan portfolio of Russians over the 10 months of 2023 grew by 6 trillion rubles, to 34.8 trillion rubles. The increase turned out to be a record for the entire period of statistics – at least since 2015.

Pay attention to the statistics of the Central Bank “News”. As the newspaper notes, in January–October 2022, the increase in lending amounted to 1.7 trillion rubles, for the same period in 2021 – 4.1 trillion rubles, in 2020 – 2.2 trillion rubles.

The press service of the Central Bank confirmed a record increase in lending to the population. The regulator noted that 60% were mortgages, which are supported by preferential programs. In addition, the growth of unsecured loans has increased sixfold by 2022. This is due to the weak dynamics of last year.

The Central Bank believes that the reasons for record lending were pent-up demand amid the stabilization of the economic situation and increased incomes of the population. Experts interviewed by Izvestia also suggested that growth was facilitated by low rates in the first half of the year, high inflation expectations and tightening of the conditions of the preferential mortgage program (citizens wanted to take out a loan on more favorable terms).
