The face of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker appeared on a black icon in the Church of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called in the village of Darasun, Trans-Baikal Territory. Writes about this “MK in Chita”.

Assistant rector of the church parish Vladimir Maltsev told the publication that in the fall of 2017, an acquaintance brought him an icon and offered to buy it for three thousand rubles. Having received a blessing from the rector, Priest Valery Shemelin, he and his parishioners raised funds and bought the artifact.

He noted that the icon was originally located in the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, built in 1893. The last services were served in it in 1927. Afterwards, the shrine was kept in the family of a friend of the assistant rector of the temple parish, the image completely blackened. The image began to brighten after the first liturgy in 2019 – this was the first liturgy in 91 years.

“To this day, the word ‘miracle worker’ is almost clearly visible on the icon,” he added.

The clergyman noted that some doubt that the icon itself brightened and say that it was cleaned by hand. Others are sure that holy images appear from touching an artifact. According to Vladimir Maltsev, it is believed that icons are renewed according to the will of God.
