Chapter IIHF: admission of Russians depends on the safety of tournaments

The admission of hockey players from the Russian Federation and Belarus to competitions under the auspices of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) depends only on the possibility of safely organizing competitions.

The official website of the organization quotes the head of the IIHF, Luc Tardif, who emphasized that the admission of two states to competitions depends entirely on the safety of athletes and organizers. Additionally, Tardif linked the return to the IIHF’s ability to “host a safe tournament.”

By decision of the IIHF Council at the end of February 2022, the national teams of Russia and Belarus were suspended from international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
