IAEA: mines have been discovered again on the periphery of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that mines were once again discovered on the periphery of the territory of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the organization’s press release.

The mines were reportedly discovered by IAEA experts in the buffer zone between the internal and external fences of the facility. At the same time, as noted, in November last year, mines were already discovered in these places, which were subsequently neutralized. The IAEA notes that the presence of mines makes this area inaccessible to Zaporizhia NPP personnel, and this fact contradicts the requirements of the organization.

As reported, in November the IAEA reported the discovery of directed anti-personnel mines on the periphery of the Zaporizhia NPP.

Zaporizhia NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar, it is considered the largest in Europe in terms of the number of units and capacity. Since October 2022, the nuclear power plant has become the property of Russia.
