The IAEA confirmed the absence of mines on the roofs of two power units of the Zaporozhye NPP

Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) did not find mines and explosives on the roofs of the 3rd and 4th power units and in the machine rooms of the Zaporozhye NPP. The organization confirmed this information on its Twitter account.

IAEA experts yesterday got access to these facilities. On the eve of the military commander Olga Kurlaeva in her Telegram channel reportedthat “a fresh batch of IAEA agents” did not find mines.

“The team continues to request visits to the rooftops of the remaining four units,” said Rafael Grossi, CEO of the organization.

The IAEA has repeatedly requested access to the rooftops of Units 3 and 4 and to parts of the plant’s turbine rooms that are “of special interest.” Earlier, Grossi reported that there were no signs of mining at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

At the end of July Grossi toldthat on July 23, IAEA experts discovered directional anti-personnel mines on the periphery of the ZNPP site. They were located in the buffer zone between the inner and outer fences along the perimeter of the facility – the station personnel do not have access to this territory, Grossi specified. Then it was noted that in the event of their detonation, this would not affect the nuclear safety of the station.

On July 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia had allegedly placed “explosive-like” objects on the roof of the ZNPP power units. Adviser to the head of the Rosenergoatom concern, Renat Karchaa, responded that Zelensky was “shamelessly lying” and he had no grounds for such statements.

Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Since the end of February 2022, ZNPP has been under Russian control. The Russian side has repeatedly reported that the station and the city of Energodar, where it is located, are subjected to regular shelling by Ukraine.
